Chuck & Terry Davis
Charlotte, NC
The Biggest Surprise. When Chuck and Terry Davis decided to make the move to their cottage at The Cypress in 1999, Chuck said they spent a great deal of time concerned about downsizing as they were coming from a sizable home. "We made layouts of the cottage and templates of the furniture. We reviewed the project in detail and worried about a lot of things," Chuck explained. Attention to detail is quite understandable for Terry and Chuck who both graduated from Purdue University. Chuck studied chemical engineering and Terry's field was interior design. "But the thing we never gave much thought to was our biggest surprise and which is really one of the best things about The Cypress. That's the family we've become. When we were first here we looked around and really didn't know anybody. Now we look around and here's our family. The people here are far more important than all the stuff we spent time on. It is still a pleasant surprise to see what good friends we have here as a result of our move," Chuck said.

Bill Hollenbach
Charlotte, NC
"Way Beyond Anything I Could Imagine" Before Bill Hollenbach decided to purchase his villa at The Cypress of Charlotte he said he checked out about a dozen other retirement communities. "I really considered The Cypress a full notch above the best of them," he said. "The physical plant is outstanding, the grounds are very well maintained and the food is quite good. But I would have to say one of the things that really impressed me since I moved in are the friendly people here. I thought it would take three to five years to become acquainted." But that wasn't the case for Bill. "The thing that has gone way beyond anything I could imagine before I got here are the people and activities that are available." Bill does take full advantage of the activities. Monday is bible study, Tuesday is bridge and poker, Thursday is duplicate bridge and Friday Bill moderates a lecture series for Cypress members. "Just to give you an idea of what topics we've covered lately, "Bill explained, "we've had talks on Thomas Jefferson, Winston Churchill, natural law, French Impressionism, and one on Russia from Peter the Great to Gorbachev. The lectures are always followed by good discussions." Saturday is devoted to croquet. He leaves Wednesdays open for a special project.
